Getting Started

LessonTree is available as a free download from the App Store. It works on both iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later). Search for "LessonTree" or go directly to the app's page to install.

No special setup is needed. You can start adding students as soon as the app launches. If you'd like reminder notifications, allow notifications when prompted by iOS. If you're signed in to iCloud, your data will sync automatically.

Student management, lesson recording, photo attachments, reminder notifications, and iCloud sync are all free. The Pro plan adds additional custom fields, bulk export, priority support, and more.

Student Management

Tap the photo icon on the student edit screen to take a new photo or choose one from your library. The image is automatically resized and optimized before being stored and synced via iCloud.

Use the "Archive" feature to hide a student from the main list without deleting them. Archived students can be restored at any time, with all their lesson records intact. To permanently delete, use the "Delete" option from the student detail screen.

Go to Settings and tap "Custom Fields." You can define fields by type (text, number, date, or checkbox) and give each a name. Once added, the fields appear on every student's detail screen, where you can enter individual values.

Lesson Recording

Tap the camera icon on the lesson editing screen to take a photo or select one from your library. Up to 10 photos can be attached to a single lesson. Images are automatically resized and synced to iCloud.

Yes, past lesson records can be edited at any time. Tap the record in the lesson list, then use the edit button in the top-right corner to make changes. Updates sync automatically to iCloud.

Tap a text field to bring up the keyboard, then tap the microphone button (bottom-right of the keyboard) to start dictation. Your speech is converted to text in real time. The microphone button is available on iOS 17 and later.

iCloud Sync

Data syncs automatically between any iPhone and iPad signed into the same Apple ID. Your data is stored encrypted on Apple's iCloud servers and cannot be accessed by third parties. Data entered offline will sync automatically when an internet connection is available.

Please check the following:

  1. Both devices are signed in to iCloud
  2. Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → LessonTree is turned on
  3. Your internet connection is stable
  4. Your iCloud storage is not full

If the issue persists, try force-quitting the app and reopening it.

Data Export

You can export as CSV or JSON. CSV opens in Excel or Google Sheets for analysis and reporting. JSON is useful for data migration between apps or for developers who need to process the data programmatically. Export from Settings → Export.

Yes. On the export screen, you can choose to export lesson records or student information, and select specific students or export all at once. Exported files can be shared via AirDrop, email, the Files app, and more using iOS's standard share sheet.

Subscription

Tap "Upgrade to Pro" in the app's Settings screen to view plan details and pricing. Purchase is handled securely through the App Store and charged to your Apple ID.

Go to iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions to cancel at any time. You'll continue to have access to Pro features until the end of your current billing period. After cancellation, you'll return to the free plan, but all your data is preserved.

Troubleshooting

Please try the following steps:

  1. Force-quit and relaunch the app (swipe up from the Home Screen to close)
  2. Restart your device
  3. Check the App Store for an available update
  4. Update to the latest version of iOS

Please check the following:

  1. iOS Settings → Notifications → LessonTree: notifications are allowed
  2. Reminders are turned on for the student within the app
  3. The next lesson date is set correctly
  4. Focus mode or Do Not Disturb is not blocking notifications
